Reindeer- and other Summer Activities around Jokkmokk

While staying here at Skabram Camping, take the unique opportunity to familiarize yourself with our animals, especially our magnificient reindeer! There are also many other things that you can experience during your stay here. Most summer activities are available may-october each year, but this can vary slightly due to climate and weather.
Take your time and read through the following pages to find which activities that appeal most to you.

reindeer feeding

This is a 45-60 minutes event that takes place daily when we feed the reindeer. The guests get to follow our guide into the reindeer pen and help to feed the animals.

The reindeer normally eat directly from the hand, and during the activity the guide will talk about the reindeer and the sámi way of herding them.

During this activity one of our guides will lead the participants on a shorter hike in our lovely surroundings. The trail leads to a small lake where the group will stop to have a small fika(coffee/tea and snacks) by the fire. Our guide will teach you about the sami life, our reindeer and local traditions.

A pack-reindeer will carry the nessecary equipment and delicacies.

This activity requires that the participant is able to walk along a trail in the forest about 500 m there and back again, not suitable for physically impaired persons.

Our guide will take you into one of our pens where you will get the opportunity to get close up with and pet one of our reindeer.

This activity will let you take really memorable selfies with our pretty animals.

Other Summer Activities at skabram camping

Below is a number of activities you can do during summertime right around the corner of the campsite in Skabram. We sell fishing licenses, and you can book the sauna in the reception or directly on the website.

Hiking trails around Skabram

The campsite is beautifully situated next to the forest, west of Jokkmokk. There is a hiking trail that starts at the campsite that leads up to a recreational area which has many different marked hiking trails in various lengths. Next to some of the trails you can find fireplaces, lookout points and a lovely nature.

Fishing in skabram and jokkmokk

From 50 SEK/day

Our campsite sits on the shore of Skabram lake. Fishing is allowed in the lake where you can catch perch, roach and pike. There are also many other lakes around Jokkmokk where it's allowed to fish with the right fishing permit.

You can buy your fishing licenses in our reception, or at ifiske.se. The link below takes you to Jokkmokks Jakt och Fiskevårdsförening, which is the organisation that regulates the fishing in Jokkmokk municipality. You can find more information on their website.

Sauna & Swimming in skabram

Swimming is free
Sauna 290 SEK/2 hours

The Skabram lake is rather shallow and has quite warm water in the summer time. Swimming in the lake is free for everyone. We have a small sauna on the beach which our guests can rent for a small fee.

The combination of swimming in the lake and then heating up in the sauna afterwards is really refreshing and something we recommend.

Jokkmokk town

Below is listed a number of popular activities that you can do during summertime in Jokkmokk town. Jokkmokk is known as a sort of cultural center for the samis in Sweden, so things like Ájtte sami museum and various sami handicraft shops are very popular among tourists. You can also find alot of other things to see and do when you explore Jokkmokk.

Botanic garden

There is a lovely botanic garden at the outskirts of Jokkmokk. Here you can find many different plants that normally only grow in the alpine mountains. The garden is only open during the summertime and is cared for by Ájtte sámi museum, on whoms webpage you can find more information.

Ájtte Sámi Museum

The museum in Jokkmokk is a very popular tourist attraction. The exhibitions are of high quality and here you can learn alot about the life in the north of Sweden. There is particularly much information about the sámi people and reindeer-herding. The museum has a small gift shop where you can buy authentic sámi handicraft, jewelry and other things.

There is a popular lunch restaurant in the museum, which we recommend to all our guests.

Handicraft shops

In Jokkmokk there are many small shops where you can buy fine sami handicraft. A visit to the town is well worth the time and you might find unique, hand-made souvenirs with amazing quality which you can't find anywhere else.
